In 1938, she opened a frozen food company. She also opened a restaurant in New Orleans in 1949, Lena Richards Gumbo House in New Orleans. As if that was not enough she authored one of the first Creole cookbooks ever written by a colored woman. Lena Richard's Cook book. And within her cookbook, she still made sure to credited the cooks whom herp guide her in thre creatin of her recipes.To say she did a lot in a very short time, in the most unlikely circumstances is an understatement.
