I love plantains. I think you all know this by now. They are fairly quick to cook, very affordable to purchase and are so filling. So here is my recipe on best practice and tips on how to boil them.

Pot+ lid optional 


  • deep pot
  • 2 green or yellow plantains 
  • water
  • pinch of salt 
  • 1Tbsp vinegar

Start by thinking how you are going to enjoy this meal !

      1.lightly rinse unpeeled plantains with water, then cut in half 

  1. Add to pot, submerge in enough water, add salt +vinegar
  2. On medium, allow to boil for 20 mins (just perfectly tender)
  3. Before eating, remove peel 
  4. And enjoy!

Lola’s Tips : 

Peel < allow your plantains to have a nice color + easier to manipulate with hands 

Vinegar <  Prevents browning of plantains

Serving suggestions : With some Akra from our cooking class. And also enjoy this as breakfast with some eggs. Its really yummy
